Community Support Initiative for Refugees (COSIR) is a registered not-for-profit LGBTI refugee led and centered Creational, Educational, Awareness and Empowerment programs group for LGBTIQ refugees living in urban settings.

COSIR is currently seeking to expand our Secretariat and/or replace members who are in the process of resettlement out of Kenya. UNHCR TO CUT-OFF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM LGBT REFUGEESS IN NAIROBI LGBTI refugees are yet to find a hard time as the United Nations High Commission for Refugees – UNHCR in Kenya’s capital Nairobi is set to end financial assistance to LGBTI refugees. The UN refugee agency announced a possible move to cut off the financial assistance that it has been for all along offering to LGBTI refugees living in Nairobi. The agency announced the sad news through the focal person for LGBTI refugees Ms. Beth Waruiru in a series of meetings held between 4 th to 6 th December in different localities where LGBTI refugees reside. Make shift carton boxes double up as the walls of their homes and bedding. This is the case in parts of Westlands, Nairobi, where more than 20 refugees have converted culverts and spaces beneath flyovers into make-shift homes. They stay there while waiting for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to decide their fate. The Star has followed the families for more than four months, some of their stories turning from ones of hope to gloom, and then desperation. They have lost hope that the UNHCR will help them and fear violence will be meted on them because of the belief that they are an embarrassment.
